Mystery Painting

I went to the thrift store to get some frames for my wall collage I'm working on.  One of the frames I bought had an original painting in it.  I was wondering why someone would get rid of something that they had spent so much time on.  I wonder if it was given to someone who gave it away?  Is it a picture of someone the artist knew?  Why does such a little boy have all those suit cases?  My 3 year old said he was crying.  I'd love to know the back story of it.  Maybe someone in Yuma will recognize it or the siganture.  I can't make it out.
